NRVCS will sponsor a community candlelight vigil on Saturday, August 31 in observance of International Overdose Awareness Day. The event will take place at the Bisset Park gazebo in Radford beginning at 7 p.m. This is the third consecutive year that this event has been conducted.
A brief program, featuring speakers who have been directly affected by overdose and opioid use, will begin the evening. Lighting of candles will take place at dusk. (Sunset is just before 8:00 PM that evening.)
NRVCS officials say the purpose of the event is to remember those lives that have been lost to overdose, but to also offer a message of hope to those who are battling addiction. They point out that recovery is possible if individuals are given access to professional treatment and support.
