Youth risk behaviors will be the focus of a community forum hosted by the Montgomery County Prevention Partners (MCPP) on Tuesday, March 20 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Sophie Wenzel, Associate Director of the Virginia Tech Center for Public Health Practice and Research, will present results from the 2015 and 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Surveys administered to Montgomery County middle and high school students. After the data presentation, a group of community panelists will address the findings and answer questions from the audience. Panelists scheduled to participate include:
Dr. Noelle Bissell, Director, New River Health District
Ms. Melissa Hipple, Coordinator of School Counseling, Montgomery County Schools
Ms. Moe McClanahan, Detective, Christiansburg Police Department
Mr. Doug Poe, Juvenile Probation Supervisor, 27th District Court Service Unit
Mr. Chris Taylor, Rehabilitative Services Manager, NRVCS (New River Valley Community Services)
The public is encouraged to attend, especially parents and guardians, middle and high school students, and public officials in Montgomery County. A separate facilitated discussion for 7th – 12th graders will be held during the community forum. Light refreshments will be available for all who attend.
Together we can address the many factors that affect the health of our youth.
