About Us
The Sponsored Residential Program offered through New River Valley Community Services is a family-oriented living arrangement for people with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral health issues who need support to care for their daily needs and activities of life.
Our program helps to ensure these individuals have the most successful and rewarding life possible. It begins with a person (and their family, when applicable) who desires to care for someone in their home and applies to be a sponsored residential provider. NRVCS works with the provider to become licensed through the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and a contracted employee of NRVCS.
Licensed providers and individuals considering placement are given the opportunity to first become acquainted to ensure the most successful placement possible. Each home can potentially care for one or, at the most, two individuals. The goal is that these individuals become a part of the family and get the support they need in any and all areas of their life, including: ensuring their health and safety, making and keeping medical appointments, filling prescriptions and taking their daily medications, getting help to care for their personal needs and hygiene, support to provide and safely eat their daily meals and snacks, etc.; and the support needed for becoming an integral part of their community (i.e. visiting friends and places of interest, shopping, volunteering, attending events, etc.).
