Same Day Access (SDA) allows a person the ability to call or walk in for an initial assessment to be linked to services through NRVCS. You can access both mental health and substance use services through our SDA process where our assessors will assist in connecting you to services that meet your ongoing needs.

Interested in accessing services? Please see below and if you have any questions about SDA or wish to initiate services with NRVCS, please give us a call at 540-961-8400.

Please note if you are having an immediate medical emergency, please dial 911. If you need Crisis Services you may still call 540-961-8400 but ask to speak with ACCESS. You can also call 540-961-8404 which is our Crisis Center located in our Radford Clinic.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
To help make the process of paperwork smooth and assist your ongoing needs, here are a few things to bring if they apply to you:

  • Photo ID (such as a license government issued photo/school or work picture ID)
  • Insurance card
  • Proof of Income
  • Medication List
  • Hospital Discharge Paperwork
  • Legal paperwork: (custody paperwork, probation referrals, etc)

WHAT TO EXPECT AT SDA:
Check in at the front desk of either location and let them know you are here for an intake. They will provide instructions for completing paperwork and intake or engagement (if time slots are full) times.

HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE?
Duration may vary depending on needs but expect at least two hours for assessment and a possible additional hour for remaining paperwork.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST?
If you have Medicare, Medicaid, or a VA private insurance policy, these insurances will be billed. If not, services are offered on a sliding scale based on income. You can also call the number on the back of your insurance card if you are unsure if NRVCS is under your plan’s coverage.

WHAT SERVICES CAN I GET CONNECTED TO?
NRVCS has multiple services available for both mental health and substance use recovery. Though we can assist in linking all NRVCS services, see OUR SERVICES (link) for more information. In SDA, we are able to directly schedule Outpatient for mental health and substance use (individual or group counseling) appointments ideally within ten days of your assessment date.

WHAT IF I’M NOT SURE WHAT SERVICE I NEED?
Our assessors will work with you to determine what services you are eligible for while you are completing your assessment. Some may have recommendations from outside sources such as doctors, probation officers/court, DSS, or other referrals. If you happen to have paperwork for these recommended programs or referrals, please make sure that you bring this with you to SDA.

WHAT IF I’M NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SERVICES?
Our assessors will assist in answering questions, gathering information for your ongoing needs, and gaining resources from the community to best assist you.

CAN I GET MEDICATION THROUGH SAME DAY ACCESS?
Unfortunately, our staff is not able to prescribe medications. We can refer to psychiatric services through NRVCS after you are assessed and linked to another MH or SUD service.  Emergency psychiatric appointments are scheduled as needed. If you are looking for medication only, it may be most beneficial to see your PCP or another private psychiatric provider who can accommodate this.

CAN I GET HOUSING SERVICES THROUGH SAME DAY ACCESS?
Though SDA is not connected with immediate housing, some referral programs may be able to assist with this. However, for immediate needs please contact NRV Community Action and see the following link https://newrivercommunityaction.org/emergency-assistance-program/ .

CAN I GAIN ADHD/AUTISM TESTING FOR MYSELF OR MY CHILD THROUGH SAME DAY ACCESS?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide testing for ADHD/Autism/Learning Disabilities at SDA. If you are an adult or have a child seeking this testing, please check the links below for some options within the community that could assist you!
